As the macabre fantasy Death Note begins building to its climax, the story grows increasingly complex. Although he agrees to release Light and Misa from prison, L still believes they are the murderers Kira I and Kira II. To ensure Light does nothing without his knowledge, L has them handcuffed together, like Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier in The Defiant Ones. Misa's notebook has fallen into the hands of the board of the Yotsuba Corporation, who are using the attendant Shinigami (god of death) to eliminate businessmen whose interests clash with theirs. Light, who only used the notebook's powers to kill criminals, is appalled at these cold-blooded murders. He and his father want to arrest the board members, but L is more interested in capturing Kira. The tensions between their approaches, interests, and suspicions lead L and Light to clash and even punch each other out. The Limited Edition comes with a collectible figure of Misa. (Rated Teen+ Older Teen, suitable for ages 15 and older: grotesque imagery, violence, violence against women, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

4 out of 5 stars hmmm. Gettin' a little worried here...   April 12, 2008

Death Note has been the most gripping series I been following so far. The first 3 volumes have been really good. This one is still good but I feel a slight momentum change.

A new character is fully introduced in the form of the second Kira. This person stages a meeting with Light which tosses a monkey wrench in his plans. The plot twist are coming in flocks and it still maintains its level of suspense. I really enjoyed the build up in the first three episodes.

Overall, I didn't completely feel the cat and mouse game between Light and L towards the end. I'm really interested in seeing what happens next. This volume contains eps. 13-16.

5 out of 5 stars Still very interesting   February 13, 2008

Several people who have already seen the entire series says it's crap. I only seen very few episodes after this one and it doesn't seem like crap to me. It still keeps everything good about it. I won't add any spoilers in this simply because the spoilers are very big and important to the storyline.

This one picks up with the battle of wits between Light and L. The confrontation only gets better and the suspense picks up alot. There are several twist in this that only elevates the series. It never got slow for an instant and it will only keep you wanting more. Every episode was excellent from start to finish. I know it's not impossible for this to collapse by the end. But I really hope it does end strong. I made it this far and I will continue until I see the rest. This volume contains eps. 9-12.

5 out of 5 stars So far it's getting better   December 28, 2007

This volume keeps the story moving in the right direction. I have seen it 5 times already and it just gets better after every watch. This is one of the finest anime I'm getting into right now.

this volume picks up right after the bus jacking. Light learned the identity of the FBI agent tailing him. He doesn't waste any time using this to his advantage. Light's actions devastates the Bureau and as a result L is forced to expose himself to a select few of officers. Together they come up with a plan to draw Kira(Light) out.

I think this volume was a very good follow up. L is a very good character. His skills and planning is one of the things that keeps this volume very interesting. The middle two episodes spends time developing another character who figured out Kira's ability to kill. These two episodes were very interesting and entertaining to me. Light proves to be a very clever character and Ryuk adds a bit more to it. He makes it no secret that he's not on Lights side at all.

To say anything further could easily spoil the volume. This is easily one of the better series so far. I only hope it stays this way or gets better. This volume contains episodes 5-8. They're all very good episodes and I'm not going to wait for the boxset. I'm really into this one.

5 out of 5 stars Dark, Intense, Depressing, and You'll Love Every Minute Of It!   January 31, 2008

This is where the show starts to get even more interesting. We find the character Light continuing to play the role of "god of the new world," ending the lives of the people he deems evil and unworthy of life. Light continues to write names in the Death Note, with the genius detective L hot on his trail. Light stays sharp so that he can eliminate L, keep his grades up, and keep Ryuk from going into withdrawal by feeding him apples. The show begins to start getting much more interesting in Volume 3 with Light entering college and L begins to keep an even closer watch on Light. More importantly, the revelation of another Death God coming to Earth with a second Death Note. The Death God not only gives the second Kira a Death Note, but they also provide a nice pair of Shinigami eyes to the owner allowing them to see everyone's name and lifespan by just looking at their face. What will this mean for Light?

It was exactly what we expected. The "extras" on the DVD were very interesting also. My daughter and I are huge fans!
