In this winning comedy-adventure, writer Shouji Gatou and director Koichi Chigira combine mecha battles, psychic abilities, and teen-age romance, infusing the mixture with a rambunctious comic energy reminiscent of Generator Gawl. High school student Kaname Chidori may be a "Whispered," an individual who possesses vast, untapped mental powers. The KGB and other sinister organizations want to capture individuals with those powers, so the anti-terrorist mercenary corps Mithril dispatches a mismatched trio of officers to protect Kaname: Melissa Mao, Sousuke Sagara, and Kurz Weber. Sousuke tries to blend in at Jindai High, but his military bearing, hair-trigger reflexes, and literal-mindedness get him into trouble with the teachers and Kaname. At a time when many anime series feel like variations on Evangelion and a few other prototypes, Full Metal Panic offers an upbeat, appealing originality. I wouldn't really listen to the review below. There is a reason this series is ranked extremely highly. (Check out the individual dvd releases reviews). I recommend Vandread as well, but Full Metal Panic combines great characters, setting and trappings. Great production values overall with great art, animation and music production. Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu are among the best series to check out. As many have said, the only problem with the FMP/Fumoffu series is, once it's over "When its over you'll be left wanting more, more, more." Completely heart warming, enthralling, enjoyable and charming. My highest recommendation.

If you're looking for an anime that's got it all and really leaves you begging for a sequel, which by the way it has one and another on the way, this is definitely the anime for you!
Filled with mild fan service, a cute love theme, frequent mech battles (although not up to Gundam standards), and gut-wrenching comedy, Full Metal Panic! is a great addition to any anime collection.
Plot? There's an organization after a selct group of individuals known as the Whispered and it's up to teenage Lt. Sagara Souske to save their latest target: Kaname Chidori, a hot-headed high school student who detests military fan boys aka Souske.
You're in for a definite treat with this one, but beware of the cheesy CG submarine.
