| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The first Inu-Yasha theatrical feature plays like an extended episode of the popular television series. Kagome, Inu-Yasha, Shippo, Miroku, and Sango are pitted not against Naraku, but against the moth-demon Menomaru, who was awakened by a falling shard from the enchanted Shikon Jewel. Menomaru seeks to recapture the power of his father Hyoga, who was defeated by Inu-Yasha's father when Hyoga came to Japan "from the continent" (i.e., during the Mongol invasion of 1274). Only the combined power of Kagome's arrows and Inu-Yasha's sword Tetsusaiga can defeat this mighty demon. Affections Touching Across Time is unusually handsome for a feature based on a broadcast series: When snow falls on Kagome's 20th-century home, the designers evoke the prints of Kawase Hasui. Unfortunately, the images have been compressed to fit the TV format, and there's no widescreen option. Still, it's a must-have for Inu-Yasha fans. (Unrated: suitable for ages 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery) --Charles Solomon
Description 200 years ago, InuYasha's father sealed away a powerful demon from China named Hyoga. A Shikon Jewel shard awakens Hyoga's son, Menomaru, inspiring him to absorb the remains of his father's power to take control of the world. It's up to InuYasha and his friends to stop this nearly invincible foe!

Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time July 1, 2004 Cindy Fierstein (USA) 47 out of 57 found this review helpful
This movie is great! Even though I've only seen it in Japanese with English subtitles as of yet, I loved it! (It'll be just as good, if not better, in English). About the movie: first of all, neither it nor any of the other 2 movies currently released in Japan have to do with the tv episodes. The story is completely different. I'd say this movie takes place after at least the 54th episode though, after Inuyasha has already learned the Backlash Wave. In the movie, a demon from China called Matenmaru (another moth demon like Gatenmaru) tricks Inuyasha into using Tetsusaiga to break the seal on his "inheritance"--his family's powers--making him invincible (he was already immortal before his ultimate powers were unleashed). Now, it is up to Inuyasha and company to defeat him! In addition to lots of action, there are also some touching moments between Inuyasha and Kagome in this movie. ;) Any fan of the tv show is sure to love this movie!!! (By the way, the second movie is great too--Inuyasha and Kagome KISS in it!! however, they only kiss once, and briefly, and this does not affect their relationship in the episodes at all.)

Good grief. Okay, for one, don't listen to all that garbage down there(metalwhatever29, etc...). They're just extremely bored because they have no lives and short attention spans-they clearly strayed away from the main subject. Seriously, guys... We're talking about THIS dvd, and reviewing IT. Not your monotonous subjective opinion on an entire anime series. You probably go to the InuYasha key-chains and bash on those too. Pathetic...
Anyway, for people who are interested in this dvd: If you really enjoy Inuyasha, then you will like this movie. I'll truthfully say, it's not better than the 2nd or 3rd(the best one in my book!)movie, but it IS the very first Inuyasha movie and that makes it special in it's own way. For those of you who love to see them, there are a few classic Inuyasha and Kagome moments in this movie you don't want to miss. Actually, this is the first thing I ever watched of Inuyasha when they showed it on cartoon network, and I was totally absorbed. So if your a fan or a newcomer, I would definitely suggest to add this to your Inuyasha collection.
If you're already an Inuyasha fan, you should buy it September 15, 2004 Tinsel_the_Elf (Brooklyn) 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
* TAKE NOTE *
I threw a hissy fit when I read the Amazon editorial review that stated this DVD was not widescreen formatted (I first saw the film in a theatre, and even though the animation is patchy at times there are some great cinematic shots that should only be seen on widescreen). NEVER FEAR! ^_^ DESPITE WHAT IS WRITTEN ABOVE, THE DVD *IS* WIDESCREEN!
If you're an Inuyasha fan, you should buy this movie, even if you already have the Japanese version. The story is coherent and fun, and all members of Inu-tachi get a little character development (and suffer angst on the way!). Particular attention is given to Kagome and Inuyasha's tentative relationship. Fluffy-fans beware, there is precious little Sesshoumaru.
Others will sum up the plot for you, let me just say that there are nice extras. You can choose between English or Japanese language tracks, and additional material include the trailer for the second (dubbed) Inuyasha movie, several original Japanese trailers for this first one, character sketches from the film production, and a Japanese television program (subbed only) that uses clips from the first 50 or so episodes to promote the film. The program is narrated by different characters and gives the basic outline of the Inuyasha story up to Inuyasha's discovery of the Backlash Wave (Jaken and Rin are especially cute together), and ties in the plot of the film.
A final note on the dub -- there are a few cheesy moments (Kaede's yechy "ye's" among them), but on the whole it is very well done. Monk Miroku's English voice actor is a scream, and he possesses near perfect dry, comic timing.
A good price, and a very worthy DVD! ^_^
