As the popular fantasy-adventure Naruto continues, the title character, Sosuke, and Sakura pass the grueling final exam given by Kakashi-sensei... barely. Kakashi stresses the importance of teamwork, but his novices have a lot to learn. Sakura's crush on Sosuke motivates all her action; icy perfectionist Sosuke dreams of restoring his clan's position; Naruto remains a rambunctious, ambitious big mouth. Most of the disc is devoted to the trio's first professional mission. Acting as bodyguards to master bridge-builder Tazuna seems harmless enough, and Kakashi plans to use the trip to continue their instruction. But a deadly foe is after them: Zabuza Momochi, the renegade assassin from the Village in the Mist. Director Hayato Date packs the episodes with plenty of duels and battles, although the animation is very limited. The choppy cutting and lack of a Japanese track suggest the series has been heavily edited. (Unrated, suitable for ages 10 and older: violence, alcohol use, brief nudity) --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars Great Message   November 9, 2006

I am a 40 year old Mom of 3 children. My 10 year old son and I love Naruto and watch it together weekly. I started watching it about 1 year ago with him and loved the very first episode. Yes, in America we have the English version of Naruto and the diehard fans out there would rather watch the subtitled original version, but I personally like this version better. There isn't as much violence either in the English version. Naruto has many messages that are good to teach our children. It's not just about fighting, it's about working hard to reach your goals. It's about friendship, respect and the need to overcome hardships in your life. Shhhh, don't tell any kids who watch that it has these messages though, they might stop watching!
