Amazon.com Ten years after his popular feature Ninja Scroll (1993), Yoshiaki Kawajiri returned to the adventures of super-ninja Jubei Kibagami in a broadcast series. A wanderer who can cleave enemies in two with a single sword-stroke, Jubei gets drawn into a ghoulish war while trying to get a peaceful night's sleep. The Hiruko and Kimon ninja clans are fighting over the mysterious Dragon Stone, which confers extraordinary wealth and power. It's somehow linked to Shigure, a woman whom the ninjas call the Light Maiden. With some faltering help from thief Tsubute and Dakuan, an aged but powerful monk, Jubei sets out to deliver the magical Stone to Shigure. What follows is a repetitious gore-fest: Jubei splits, beheads, and skewers an endless array of bizarre-looking demons. At one point, a ship literally floats away on a sea of blood. Despite some simple computer animated effects, Ninja Scroll looks more like a series from the mid-'80s than 2003. The designs of the characters, endless duels, and meandering storyline recall Fist of the North Star and other early, blood-soaked epics. The four-disc Ultimate Collection comes loaded with special features and extras, including interviews with the composers, directors, English language director, and principal English voice actors. There are storyboard/animation comparisons, still art galleries, a trivia game, and Weblinks--everything but character arcs and a coherent plot. (Unrated, suitable for ages 17 and older: graphic violence, violence against women, grotesque imagery, nudity, sexual situations, including suggested rape and lesbianism) --Charles Solomon
Description Four-disc set includes all three volumes of Ninja Scroll: The Series and a bonus disc loaded with extra features. The Bonus Disc includes audio commentary from the director and cast, a glimpse into the Mad House Animation Studio, trivia game, DVD-Rom features and more. Based on one of the best-selling anime films in U.S. history (Ninja Scroll, 1994). Production overseen by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (creator of Ninja Scroll and director of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust).

Very good series September 22, 2005 THE MAIN MAN (Central Bookin', NY) 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
For starters this has nothing to do with the movie at all. So if your looking for a sequel or the return of Gema or something like that your going to hate this. On the plus side this collection has everything going for it. Very good animation and the story is pretty good. Jubei is hired to protect and deliver an ornament to a girl who's destiny has been decided for her. Her choice to except her destiny is going to decide the fate of one of the waring clans, in a nutshell that's pretty much it. Jubei posseses more or less the same skills from the movie but he is a lot stronger than he was in the movie. The villians are very interesting. They posses bizarre powers and skills, also most of them are very developed and what turns out being "my master says I have to kill you" turns into a grudge, "I will have my revenge at any cost" and the enemies go through incredible changes to carry out this vengence. To sum it up Ninja Scroll gives you enough bang for your buck. The action scenes and gore do not disappoint. The only ones who will not enjoy this is the ones who was hoping it will pick up where the movie left or some type of sequel. If you fit this category this might not be for you, rent it instead.
Not So Good October 12, 2005 Antonio D. Paolucci (Beaver Falls, PA) 10 out of 21 found this review helpful
I hate to admit it, but the Ninja Scroll TV series compares little to what has become a solid member of the anime royalty, Ninja Scroll. The animation is sloppy and only barely compares to that of its movie companion, and characters, both the reaccurring and the new, are very generic (ninja, magical princess, thief, old monk). Not only that, but the story is jumbled and difficult to follow in succession. Truth is you can watch the first two and the last two episodes and get the entire worth of this series. It's one bonus is the inexpensive price-tag for a boxed set.
Awesome!!! November 24, 2005 YOu (TX) 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
I saw this anime in school with acouple of friends of mine. I thought it was really cool. The story, blood and guts was awesome. This movie's not your typical saturday morning cartoon. It's mainly focussed for more of a mature audience'es. I don't suggest a 10yr old to watch the film.
This is also one of the animes that also got me into the whole anime trend. I had to buy it the next day because I liked it that much. The Story line is abit slow but not that solw. Also it's a bit of old schoolish, it has your 80's style animation. But this dosn't take away from the movie at all. I suggest buying the whole collection, you get your moneys worth. It has tons of extras. It's an awesome DVD set to add to your collection. You will not be disappointed.
