As the Tenchi Muyo spin-off GXP (2002) continues, the contretemps grow increasingly baroque. Disaster-prone Galactic Police Academy cadet Seina Yamada begins shipboard service, but he attracts trouble, even in deep space. Recognizing his talent, his superiors use him as bait for space pirates. The battles and chases with the pirates somehow lead Seina into two perilous missions for the planet Jurai. The storytelling often feels muddled, but GXP is about fan service, not plot development. Kiriko, Amane, and Erma continue to squabble over Seina's affections, and the introduction of Lady Seto and Neju of Jurai adds more angles to the romantic polygons. The filmmakers provide cleavage shots, shower scenes, hot springs bath scenes, peeping tom jokes, etc. GXP makes the main Tenchi continuity sound like Tolstoy.
