Better than average bootleg. August 28, 2008 k9black 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is basically a compressed copy of Pioneer's 8 DVD release. Don't shy away now. Pioneer (Geneon) was known for overkill on it's number of DVDs released per boxed set. 5 or 6 would have been just fine, but Pioneer loved your money. I use the past tense because Geneon is now defunct. They found out the hard way that people will buy from the cheaper suppliers as long as the quality is acceptable. This is an FX bootleg. (In the world of bootleggers they are usually considered the best) I took away one star simply because this is a bootleg. I bought this, not knowing it was a bootleg, back in '04. (Before bootlegs were separated from official releases on Amazon.) I should have known, going by it's price. But in the end I can say I was still satisfied. I've watched this set through about 10 times. I have noticed very little degradation of visual and audio quality. It also has some of the extras from the Pioneer release. Do I condone bootlegging? No. Do I condone price gouging for an official boxed set? No. When no perfect choices are left to you... what do you do? Well if you have $150+ to burn on a single boxed set, go get the real one. It's an amazing addition to any anime collection. But if you're a regular person, with a regular budget, I would suggest giving this one consideration.
